What is ALDOMET®?

Aldomet®, with the generic name of Methyldopa, is specially formulated to lower blood pressure. Aldomet® works by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals in the blood. In doing this Aldomet® relaxes your blood vessels and your heart so they can function better.

What are the possible side effects of Aldomet®?

While taking Aldomet®, you may experience some minor side effects, including: unusual fatigue, dizziness or tiredness, headache, constipation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, and dry mouth.

Side effects are difficult to predict. Some side effects are normal, while other side effects are not. Always discuss any side effects you are experiencing while taking any prescription medication, including Aldomet®, with your doctor.

Before taking Aldomet®, you should discuss with you doctor if you have had any of the following: any type of heart disease, have had a heart attack or stroke, or kidney disease.

If you experience any of the following, you may have overdosed on Aldomet®

If you feel you have overdosed on Aldomet®, contact your doctor immediately. Always consult a doctor before taking any medications including Aldomet®.

The use of Aldomet® during Pregnancy

The use of Aldomet® during pregnancy appears to be safe, however you should consult your doctor. If you plan on encountering pregnancy while taking Aldomet®, inform your doctor immediately.

Certain drugs should not be used during pregnancy. Other medications may be used during pregnancy. Your doctor might advise you to continue use of Aldomet® during pregnancy. You doctor also might advise you to discontinue use of Aldomet® during your pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about Aldomet® and pregnancy, to decide what is right for you.
