Hyzaar® is for the treatment of hypertension, which is high blood pressure. Hyzaar® may also be used to lower the risk of a stroke. Hyzaar® belongs to a class of blood pressure medications that work by preventing the hormone angiotensin II from constricting the blood vessels. This will allow blood to flow more freely and help to keep blood pressure down. Hyzaar® can help to control your blood pressure, but it cannot cure it.
The following is a list of drugs that may interfere with Hyzaar®
Let your doctor know about any medication you are taking, prescription or over the counter, before you start taking Hyzaar®.
Some common side effects you might experience while taking Hyzaar® are: cough, diarrhea, headache, increased sensitivity to the sun, nausea, tiredness or fatigue. If these side effects become bothersome while taking Hyzaar®, tell your doctor.
Some less common side effects you might experience while taking Hyzaar® are: difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, or tightening of the throat, redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, hands, or feet, unusual rash, bleeding or bruising, or pinpoint, red spots on the skin, confusion, dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting spells, decreased amount of urine passed, decrease in sexual function, fast, uneven, or irregular heart beat, palpitations, or chest pain, fever and/or chills, muscle cramps, stomach pain, vomiting, unusual fatigue or weakness, yellowing of the eyes and/or skin. If you experience any of these symptoms, or any other unusual symptoms while taking Hyzaar® tell your doctor immediately.
Side effects are difficult to predict. Some side effects are normal, while other side effects are not. Always discuss any side effects you are experiencing while taking any prescription medication, including Hyzaar®, with your doctor.
In 90 to 95% of all people with high blood pressure the cause is unknown. There are almost no symptoms for high blood pressure. Most people who have hypertension or high blood pressure only find out during an examination. It is important to get regular check-ups from your doctor. High blood pressure can be a major risk factor for stroke, heart attack, kidney and heart failure.
