Maxalt® is prescription drug, manufactured by Merck®, which can relieve pain experienced from migraines. Maxalt® does not contain aspirin or caffeine. Maxalt® is not a narcotic.
Maxalt® may not be right for you if you have high blood pressure, heart disease or are at high risk for developing heart disease, or if you are taking or have taken MAO inhibitors within the last two weeks. Maxalt® may also not be right for you if you are taking other prescription drugs.
Do not take Maxalt® if you think you are pregnant or you are nursing.
Before deciding if Maxalt® is right for you, talk to your doctor about other prescription drugs you are currently taking. You doctor can decide if the prescription drug Maxalt® can help treat your migraine headaches.
Side effects are difficult to predict, since everyone reacts differently to medication. Some more common side effects you may experience while taking the prescription drug Maxalt® will include: drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, or headache may occur.
Some less common side effects that can occur while taking the prescription drug Maxalt® may occur. These include: mood changes, chest pain, neck/jaw discomfort. If you have experienced any of these while taking Maxalt®, you should notify your doctor immediately.
Some very uncommon side effects can while taking the prescription drug Maxalt® include: irregular or fast heartbeat, unusual weakness, vision changes, cold/tingling/numb hands or feet, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, fainting or unsteadiness. If you have experienced any of the previous symptoms while taking Maxalt®, notify your doctor immediately.
Allergy to the prescription drug Maxalt® may occur, but is unlikely. Should you experience an allergic reaction while taking Maxalt®, notify your doctor immediately. Symptoms of this allergic reaction can include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you experience any of these symptoms, or any other symptoms not listed above while taking Maxalt®, notify your doctor immediately.

A migraine is a neurological disease, not just a headache. However, the most common symptom with a migraine is an intense headache.
